Nigeria is richly endowed with a variety of solid minerals of various categories ranging from precious metals to various stones and also industrial minerals. These solid minerals are located in different parts of the country in commercial quantity. Whilst the downstream subsector is mostly engaged by individuals and indigenous companies, the upstream subsector is dominated by small scale/artisanal miners, and local integrated manufacturing companies (Source: KPMG).
Statistically, the level of exploitation of these minerals is very low in relation to the extent of deposits found in the country. Opportunities exists in Nigeria for exploitation and export of Natural gas, Lithium, Gold, Iron ore, Bitumen, Limestone, Coal, Tin, Columbite, Silver, Lead-zinc, Gypsum, Glass sands, and Graphite among others.
On the other hand, Australia possesses key strengths across the mining supply chain; Australians are leading stakeholders in mining operations across countries in Africa with over $40 billion investment in projects; it possesses a broad range of professional services (finance/legal/advisory/CSR); engineering and consulting organisations; social and environmental consultancies; innovative equipment suppliers; education and training providers. Exactly what Nigeria needs to develop its mineral resources.
The Nigeria Mining Roadshow in Australia, which includes participation in the Africa Downunder Mining Conference 2018, will provide a great opportunity to demonstrate the capacity of Australia as a global mining destination, and to engage with projects and decision makers from Nigeria on tangible business opportunities.
The 2-Day forum will also enable a great platform to discuss Nigeria mining policy issues, licensing procedures and experiences of established miners in Nigeria.
